पुढे पाणी आणि गवत मिळणार नाही, रस्ता धोकादायक आहे, शिवाय सैनिक तुम्हांला पकडून परत पाठविल्याशिवाय राहणार नाहीत, अशा अर्थाचे युक्तिवाद करून च्वांग यांचा वाटाड्या त्यांच्या उत्साहाचे खच्चीकरण करण्याचा प्रयत्न सातत्याने करीत होता. च्वांग यांनी त्याला दिलेले उत्तर त्यांच्या दृढ निश्चयाचे स्वरूप स्पष्ट करणारे आहे. ते त्याला म्हणाले,

“त्यांनी माझ्या शरीराचे धुळीच्या कणांइतके लहान तुकडे केले तरी चालेल, परंतु मी (माझे उद्दिष्ट पूर्ण झाल्याशिवाय) कधीच परतणार नाही आणि याविषयी मी येथे शपथ घेत आहे.”

जिज्ञासा ! जाणण्याची इच्छा ! नवे नवे अनुभव घेण्याची आकांक्षा. ताजा श्वास घेण्याचा उत्साह. ही जिज्ञासा माणसाला अज्ञात विश्वात घेऊन जाते. अभूतपूर्व असे काही नवीन करायला लावते. ती त्याला केवळ अनोख्या आनंदाचीच मोहिनी घालत नाही, तर संकटांची देखील भुरळ घालते. तिच्यामुळे माणसासाठी अनोळखी जगांची दारे उघडतात. त्याला त्यांची आवाहनेही निमंत्रण देतात आणि त्याच्यासमोर त्यांची आव्हानेही उभी राहतात. त्याला क्षितिजांच्या पलीकडची क्षितिजे खुणावू लागतात. अशी ही जिज्ञासा ! नित्य नूतन ! लावण्यवती. सौंदर्यशालिनी. आणि मुख्य म्हणजे ज्ञानकारिणी, ज्ञानपोषिणी !

Chwang’s Journey Not for Material Gains, but for Curiosity

Chwang had no material desires behind the numerous hardships he faced during this journey. He did not want to gain anything like wealth, kingdom, or power. Kings gave and offered him many things. But he donated most of them to Sangharam, etc. It was natural that some part would be used for travel expenses. But beyond that, he did not take anything with him. King Kumar offered him many things, but he did not accept anything from them except one thing that would be useful during the rainy season. What did he take with him in material form when he returned? So 657 books, some Buddha statues, and some relics! Most of the immaterial things that are visible! Of course, the Dhamma of Buddha in his heart and knowledge in his head! For this, he risked his life many times. Even after returning to China, instead of accepting the position of authority offered by the king, he devoted his life to the work of translation. Some people live such a life, and those like us can walk happily in the light of their lives and live happily; their curiosity, determination, and loyalty automatically descend into us too!

Therefore, Yuan Chwang is a man of curiosity!

Curiosity! The desire to know! The desire to have new experiences. The enthusiasm to breathe fresh air. This curiosity takes a person to the unknown world. It makes him do something new and unprecedented. It not only charms him with unique joy but also attracts him with dangers. Because of it, the doors of unknown worlds open for man. Their appeals also invite him. And their challenges also stand before him. He begins to see horizons beyond the horizons. Such curiosity! Always new! Charming. Beautiful and elegant. And most importantly, it is the giver of knowledge, the nurturer of knowledge!

With such curiosity in his heart, Hiuen-Tsang, or Yuan Chwang, set out for the land of Buddha. To visit holy places, to obtain scriptures, to enrich himself with pure knowledge of the true nature! Therefore, Chwang was a true man of curiosity! A symbol of passionate and unwavering devotion to knowledge! Facing death not once but many times for the sake of gaining knowledge! A long journey despite countless difficulties. A pure attitude of crossing the borders of states, countries, languages, and races. A very important foundation for the history of Indian culture. This is a small attempt to identify and draw inspiration from the travelogue he wrote after visiting India to understand the thoughts of Buddha.
