ग्रंथांची वचने काही आकाशातून खाली पडत नाहीत. म्हणून मी आणि तुमच्यासारख्या इतरांनी जे वचन सयुक्तिक असेल, त्याचा स्वीकार करावा.

विषयांच्या संपर्कातून निर्माण होणते सुख दुःखाशी मिसळलेले असल्यामुळे लोकांनी त्याचा त्याग करावा, हा मूर्खाचा विचार झाला. आपल्या हिताची इच्छा करणारा कोणता मनुष्य पांढऱ्याशुभ्र व उत्तम तांदळाने भरलेल्या साळी टरफलाने झाकल्या आहेत, म्हणून टाकून देऊ पाहील बरे ?

कौटिलीय अर्थशास्त्र

 

चार्वाकाचा सिद्धांत खोडून काढणे अवघड आहे. कारण, बहुधा सर्व लोक चार्वाकमताचे अनुसरण करीत असलेलेच आढळतात.

चार्वाकांचे जीवनविषयक विचार…

      जीवन ही एक वस्तुस्थिती आहे, स्वप्न व भ्रम नव्हे. आपण जगण्यासाठी जन्मलो आहोत, मरण्यासाठी नाही. मृत्यू हा अटळ असेल, परंतु म्हणून काही तो जीवनाचा उद्देश ठरू शकत नाही. जगणे आणि आनंदाने जगणे हाच जीवनाचा उद्देश आहे. हा उद्देश सफल करण्यासाठी पारलौकिक वा कल्पित अशा अति मानवी शक्तींचा आश्रय घेण्याची गरज नाही.

     ….. जीवनाचा आनंद घेता यावा, म्हणून भरपूर कष्ट करावेत आणि स्वत:च्या कष्टातून निर्माण केलेल्या आनंदाचा नि:संकोच आस्वाद घ्यावा. काल्पनिक मोक्ष वगैरेंच्या मागे लागून त्या आनंदाला हिन लेखू नये वा त्याचा द्वेष करू नये असे त्यांनी (चार्वाकांनी) सांगितले.

   …. त्याने अज्ञानाच्या व शोषणाच्या व्यवस्थेला नकार जरूर दिलेला आहे. पण या नकारापेक्षा त्याची रचनात्मक, विधायक बाजू अधिक प्रबळ आहे. त्याला एक नवा माणूस निर्माण करायचा आहे, एक नवा समाज निर्माण करायचा आहे….

The verses of scriptures do not fall from the sky. Therefore, I and others like you should accept the verse that is suitable.

A wise man should always experience pleasures in this world through direct means such as agriculture, cow protection, trade, penal policy, etc.

Research with a worldview (Charvaka Darshan) is the lamp of all sciences.

It is difficult to refute the theory of Charvaka. Because, most likely, all people are found to be following Charvaka.

is delightful.

Charvakas’ thoughts on life…

Life is a fact, not a dream or illusion. We are born to live, not to die. Death may be inevitable, but that cannot be the purpose of life. To live and live happily is the purpose of life. To achieve this purpose, there is no need to take refuge in supernatural or imaginary superhuman powers.

….. In order to enjoy life, one should work hard and enjoy the happiness created by one’s own hard work without hesitation. They (the Charvakas) said that one should not despise or hate that happiness by chasing imaginary salvation etc.

…. He has certainly rejected the system of ignorance and exploitation. But his creative, constructive side is stronger than this rejection. He wants to create a new man, a new society….
