बळीवंशातील राजांना सत्ता नको होती, असे नाही. परंतु त्यांची सत्ता विशिष्ट तत्त्वज्ञान, नीतिमूल्ये आणि जीवनदर्शनावर उभी असावी, याची त्यांनी नेहमीच काळजी घेतली. त्यांनी आपल्या स्वातंत्र्याच्या आकांक्षा विसर्जित करून आक्रमक आर्यांच्या अधीन राहण्याचा मार्ग स्वीकारला नाही. वैदिकांच्या रंगात रंगून सुखाने राहण्याची संधी असतानाही, त्यांनी आत्मद्रोहाचा मार्ग टाळला. हिरण्याक्षापासून बाणापर्यंत कोणाच्याही जीवनमूल्यांपेक्षा प्राणांना अधिक महत्त्व दिले गेले नाही.

त्यांच्या दृष्टीने खरे जगणे म्हणजे जीवनमूल्यांवर ठाम राहणे आणि खरे मरण म्हणजे त्या मूल्यांचा झेंडा उंच फडकावत प्राण देणे.

बळीराजा हा तत्त्वदर्शी, समतावादी, संविभागी व समाजशिल्पकार होता. प्रजेतील प्रत्येकाला श्रमाचा योग्य हिस्सा देणारा, सर्वांना समतेने वागणारा, कृषीला महत्व देणारा आणि वैदिकांची शोषक व्यवस्था नाकारणारा हा महामानव कारस्थानांना निर्मळ मनाने सामोरा गेला. तो सम्यक राज्यकर्ता आणि पराभवातही न पराभूत होणारा शांतचित्त तत्त्ववेत्ता होता. हजारो वर्षे ज्याच्या पुनरागमनाची प्रतीक्षा केली जात आहे, असा हा जिवलग — इतका जिवलग की सात काळजांच्या आत कायमचा जपून ठेवावा
